Job of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder on ‘thin ice’?
By Bryan Rose
After an opening week loss against the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder better hope he and the team have a bounce back week against the rival Chicago Bears because Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer is reporting that Ponder’s job could be on the line.
Speaking on Fox NFL Sunday, Glazer, who’s tapped into the league as much as anyone, hinted that Ponder’s job security is far less secure than most are told.
Per Glazer:
"Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder has a much shorter leash than anyone has any idea about."
Not exactly a ringing endorsement from the Vikings coaching staff.
Of course, the options behind Ponder aren’t exactly thrilling, though, the Vikings don’t exactly seem opposed to the idea of giving backup Matt Cassel the starting gig, especially after giving him a two year contract this past offseason.
It’s a very real possibility that if Ponder struggles today, Cassel could be under center come Week 3.
On the plus side, Ponder still gets to go home and eat Arby’s with Samantha Steele, so things could be worse.
