As Dirk Nowitzki goes, so do the Dallas Mavericks and considering how healthy he’s feeling right now, that’s a good sign.

The face of the Mavericks franchise struggled with injuries during training camp last season, which lingered into the regular season where Nowitzki missed the most games of his career.

But that’s all in the past and for Dirk, he’s been partaking in training activities that he hasn’t done in years. Add in the extra ‘help’ the Mavs picked up in free agency this offseason and Dirk won’t be relied upon to carry the team so drastically, a welcome notion to all involved.

Per Dallas News:

"“He is playing 5-on-5 with the guys,” owner Mark Cuban said. “(That’s) something he hasn’t done in years. Actually, all you need to know is that he’s talking about possibly playing more internationally. I don’t think he’s doing it just to make me mad.“You never know in this business. But he looks good.”If that’s the case, then there’s no reason not to be optimistic about the upcoming season. They have nine new players, just as they had last season. And it would have been an interesting season had they not been 10 games under .500 in January. They still ended up only four games out of the playoffs."
