Has an NFL official ever flagged the player who offends first? It sure doesn’t seem like it.
Every week we see a handful of scenarios where two players go at it and it almost always results in the second player, reacting to whatever action the offending first player did, getting called for the personal foul.
Case in point? Here we have Green Bay Packers tight end Ryan Taylor engaged with Cincinnati Bengals defender Vontaze Burfict at the conclusion of an extra point.
The two probably weren’t speaking about their dinner plans, but all was fine until Burfict decided to give a subtle groin punch to Taylor right in front of the official. Unfortunately for Taylor, the official saw both players verbally engaged and was looking towards their heads, not their mid-section where Taylor took a gnarly nut punch.
Obviously unhappy, Taylor shoved Burfict to the ground, where he was charged with the penalty.
Literally insult to injury.
I’ll give the ref a pass on this considering how sneaky the shot was, but, still. Pretty gnarly turkey tap.
