I don’t know about you, but I think NBA courts are already pretty packed in terms of graphics.

I mean, first off, you have the over-sized logo in the middle of the court. That’s fine – gives it the ‘home court’ feel. Then behind each basket you have the team or city name. Again, nothing wrong with that.

But now you start adding more, often between the mid-court line and the three-point line. Maybe it’s the arena name. Maybe it’s to honor somebody from the organization. It certainly can give some courts a cluttered look, especially those with multi-colored hardwood. Then often times you’ll see a team place their alternate logo on one or both sides of the key at each end of the court. But dammit, it’s still not enough according to NBA teams as they’ve recently begun selling advertisement space on the court, something the Indiana Pacers became the first to do.

Per Sports Business Journal:

The advertisement, which will read, ‘A state that works’ was purchased by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, though the NBA reserves the right to remove any ‘local’ advertisement for nationally broadcast games.
