New England vs. New York (Jets)

This rivalry would be nothing without the coaches. It actually started between a different pair of coaches when former New England assistant and then Jets head coach Eric Mangini blew the whistle off of the whole “Spygate” thing. Then, as soon as Rex Ryan took the helm at Jets headquarters, the rivalry has only intensified.

Last season it left much to be desired as far as competitiveness, because the Jets were a mess, but the game did provide the now-famous Mark Sanchez butt fumble, for which football fans will forever be grateful.

The latest installment of the rivalry includes the Jets coaching staff maybe or maybe not tipping off the officiating crew to look out for the Patriots tendency to violate a little-known rule regarding field goal attempts.

Sadly, that’s the last meeting of the two teams for the year unless we are treated to a playoff matchup in January.
