The injury nightmare continues in Atlanta, as the Falcons placed Sam Baker on IR earlier in the week and had to replace him with Sean Locklear. Now, the team’s future Hall of Famer at the tight end position seems to be banged-up more than we originally thought.
Coach Smith says Tony Gonzalez did not practice today. #ATLvsTB

The Falcons confirmed via Twitter that Tony Gonzalez sat out practice on Wednesday, just 3 days after injuring his toe in the team’s decisive loss to the Seahawks at the Georgia Dome. The Falcons were wholly non-committal in addressing the injury post-game, but multiple reports cited Gonzalez’s toe as the reason he sat out portions of the game.
Normally, it wouldn’t be a big deal for a veteran like Gonzalez to sit out a Wednesday practice, but the fact that it’s becoming a story is an indication of the potential severity. Throw in the fact that the Falcons have zero incentive to rush them along (as they are firmly in the “race” for a higher draft pick), and we could see a scenario where Gonzalez misses Sunday’s game against the Bucs.
Stay tuned for updates as they arise from Atlanta.
