Few teams in the NBA currently have more internal turmoil than that of the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks.
Los Angeles has been dealing with an unhappy Pau Gasol, who recently blasted head coach Mike D’Antoni (who returned the favor) and pondered a return to the Memphis Grizzlies where he began his career. Meanwhile, across the country the Knicks are one of the biggest disappointments in the NBA and seemingly have more drama than a prime time television show.
Both teams have players who could use a change of scenery, so it makes sense the two sides talked about a potential deal in recent days – one that involved swingman, Iman Shumpert:
"The Lakers recently called the Knicks to express their interest in Iman Shumpert, according to sources close to the situation."
In addition to calling about Shumpert, ESPN also reports that Los Angeles is pondering a deal which would send Pau Gasol to the Knicks in exchange for Tyson Chandler, though did not talk about such a trade with the Knicks during their recent phone call:
"Sources say the Lakers also are interested in another Knicks player — center Tyson Chandler. The Lakers did not inquire about Chandler when they called about Shumpert, but they are weighing whether to propose a Pau Gasol-for-Chandler trade, according to sources."
