NFL Rumors: Bill Callahan to remain Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator
By Bryan Rose
The Dallas Cowboys always seem to be a target for criticism, especially offensively. That makes an already tough job for Bill Callahan even harder, but despite the scrutiny, Callahan will be back next season.
According to CBS’ Jason La Canfora, Callahan will retain his offensive coordinator role as owner Jerry Jones doesn’t see a need for change:
"While the Cowboys absorbed ample criticism this season, failing to reach the playoffs and blowing their lead in the NFC East, owner Jerry Jones has resisted any change to his coaching staff, and, sources said, offensive coordinator Bill Callahan will continue calling plays in 2014."
That unsettling noise you hear in the background are Cowboys fans bemoaning Callahan’s return.
For all the weapons the Cowboys possessed this past season, ranking 16th in yards per game wasn’t really acceptable.
Dallas didn’t have trouble putting points on the board thankfully, ranking 5th, but often struggled to move the ball outside of the big play.
Callahan, who took over play calling duties this past season, eventually shared the duties with head coach Jason Garrett late in the year as Garrett became the conduit between Callahan and the quarterback.
