The San Diego Chargers didnāt exactly have what youād call a productive season on defense, though the fault wasnāt on defensive coordinator John Pagano.
Ripe with inexperienced players, San Diego struggled defensively this season ranking 21st in points allowed and 20th in yards allowed. But when push came to shove, San Diegoās defense showed up which assisted in their relatively unexpected playoff run.
Unfortunately, San Diego fell to the Denver Broncos on Sunday evening, ending their season. And not even twenty-four hours after they were eliminated from postseason contention, they were dealing with the loss of offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt who accepted the Tennessee Titans head coaching job.
Whisenhunt was said to be interested in bringing Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano along with him (other teams had interest as well), but San Diego was able to retain their DC according to Adam Schefter:
"Chargers lost their OC, but not their DC. They re-signed DC John Pagano, whose contract was up and who drew interest from Tennessee."
Pagano has been with the Chargers since 2002 but was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2012.
Terms of the contract have yet to be released.
