After trading away Luol Deng this month, the Chicago Bulls have put themselves in a nice financial position moving forward.
Once the team uses the amnesty provision on Carlos Boozer at season end, the Bulls will have a significant amount of cap space to spend – enough to secure themselves a maximum priced free agent if they so inclined. However, according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, that doesn’t appear likely as the Bulls will look to the trade market or opt to sign multiple players with their available funds.
"The prevailing thought is that Chicago would go after that one major free agent. Names like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and even Rudy Gay get kicked around, but what’s more likely is trip through the value player bin or major even acquiring a solid player in trade that’s already under contract."
That said, it’s pretty hard to think the Bulls would simply walk away from James or even Anthony if they expressed interest in playing for Chicago.
It does seem to make more sense for Chicago to sign multiple players or search through the trade market though if their best option is a player of Rudy Gay’s value.
