The Atlanta Falcons had a more than disappointing season in 2103. They went from playing int he NFC Championship game to having one of the worst records in the league.
New defensive line coach Bryan Cox, a former linebacker in the NFL, is promising there new defense will be improved. His goal is simple, make opposing quarterbacks fear getting hit.
“If you can make the quarterback move his feet and get him off the spot, a lot of times that creates errant throws and that creates interceptions, turnovers and panic,” Cox told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “So, I would agree that sacks are not necessarily always the thing you strive for. I think the biggest thing is that you want to affect the quarterback. You want to make him know and understand and feel that you’re are around at all times.”
He has some work to do in turning this ship around though. Atlanta’s defense had a total of 32 sacks, a mark better than only two other NFL teams: the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears.
