The San Francisco 49ers have a crew of unhappy running backs – an understandable stance considering they rarely see the field given Frank Gore‘s dominance.
Included in that unhappy group is LaMichael James, who has more than once expressed his openness to move on from the 49ers. That wish might be granted as the team could look to trade him this offseason.
"James could find himself on the trade block with a running back corps that could consist of Gore, Lattimore, Kendall Hunter, Jewel Hampton and any other offseason additions. But for the 49ers to even consider shipping off James, they must have a plan for someone else in the return game."
The former Oregon product isn’t likely to get San Francisco much of a return – maybe a late round draft pick at best. The more likely scenario is that James will be released after training camp considering teams aren’t going to offer up any picks for a player they know likely won’t be on the roster next season.
A 2012 second round pick, James’ outside speed running doesn’t fit with San Francisco’s power game.
