As if the San Francisco 49ers crushing defeat against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game wasn’t enough, they also lost Pro Bowl linebacker NaVorro Bowman in the process.

The former Penn State star tore his ACL on a goal line stand but there was hope that NaVorro would be able to return come Week 1. However, head coach Jim Harbaugh suggests that timetable may be too early and Bowman may not be able to return until the middle of the season.

"“Realistically, halfway through the season (or) something like that would be more realistic,” he said. “But I never underestimate NaVorro Bowman.”"

Understandably, there’s quite a difference between being ready for Week 1 or not being ready to return until Week 8 or Week 9. Of course, Harbaugh just may be attempting to deflect some pressure on Bowman in regards to a return, but that’s tough news for the 49ers.

That said – the team has shown an amazing ability to handle injuries (or suspensions in the case of Aldon Smith) on the defensive side of the balls thanks to their depth.
