NFL Free Agent Rumors: Carolina Panthers sign wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery
By Bryan Rose
It took a few days, but the Carolina Panthers finally signed themselves a competent NFL wide receiver, though, the name isn’t likely to impress the faithful.
After mulling his options, Jerricho Cotchery decided to sign with the Panthers on Thursday morning, this after picking Carolina over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Jerricho Cotchery was choosing between the #Steelers and #Panthers, and he’s chosen Carolina. Final details being hammered out."
Cotchery spent the last three seasons with the Steelers (though didn’t play in 2012) and hauled in an impressive ten touchdowns last season, despite only making 46 catches on the season. That said, he proved to be a worthwhile target in the end zone despite his rather slender 6’1 frame.
He instantly shoots atop the Carolina wide receiver depth chart (which is a problem within itself) though would likely prove to be a solid second or third wide receiver in most situations.
Financial details of Cotchery’s contract have yet to be released.
Earlier on Thursday, rumors began swirling that the Panthers may have interest in trading for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, though that is unconfirmed at this time.
