On the heels of signing quarterback Matt Schaub to a team-friendly contract, the Oakland Raiders have done it again – this time with running back Maurice Jones-Drew.

The longtime Jacksonville Jaguars star signed a three-year, $7.5 million dollar contract with the Raiders this past weekend but the deal will only be guaranteed for just over one million dollars, this according to Aaron Wilson.

"Maurice Jones-Drew three-yr. Raiders deal: $7.5M, $1.2M guaranteed 2014 roster bonus, salaries $1.2M, $2.4M, $2.4M annual $100K workout bon."

In short, the Raiders will pay MJD his $1.2 million in guaranteed money this season, but if things don’t work out and the Raiders opt to move on, they can do so without being trapped financially moving forward.

Oakland has certainly caught some grief for their signings this offseason, but the front office has seemingly protected their future by getting the veterans to sign team friendly deals.

Hard to tell who’ll come away as the Oakland starting running back this season, Jones-Drew or Darren McFadden, but you can’t argue with the contract.
