The NBA Draft Lottery is right around the corner and teams are looking at the night not only to see where they are picking in June’s draft but to see if they can’t use their draft position to make their team more attractive.

According to Wolves beat writer Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune, Minnesota will be waiting until after the Draft Lottery next week to hire a head coach as they’re holding out hope for a top-3 pick to help make them more attractive.

In addition to wanting to land a decent head coach with a top-3 pick in their back pocket, the Wolves believe that getting at op pick and landing either Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid or Jabari Parker may help them convince Kevin Love to return as the future would be brighter than it is now.

Of course, the Wolves are picking 13th in the draft and have little to no chance of winning the lottery, but that’s part of what makes the night so exciting. One bounce of a ping pong ball could convince a decent head coach to want to join up and could mean Kevin Love comes back. A bad bounce could give the Phoenix Suns the No. 1 pick which would mean the Wolves would drop to 14th overall and have to trade it away since it’s only top-13 protected.
