Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and his wife Janay Palmer will hold a press conference tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET at the team’s facility, according to CBSSports’ Jason La Candora.

Rice has plead not guilty to assault charges after video surfaced of him in February of him dragging his unconscious then-fiancee out of an elevator at an Atlantic City hotel. Earlier this week Rice entered a pretrial intervention program and will avoid any jail time.

More from Baltimore Ravens

Rice is likely to face a suspension from the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, but Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco commented earlier this week that he would be surprised if Rice faced a suspension.

I have to imagine this press conference is a plea to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to try and avoid a four-game suspension and get a reduced sentence.

The league can not afford to let Rice go off easy here as it would set an awful precedent. If players are suspended for four games (sometimes more) for violating the league’s drug policy then anything less than four games would be an absolute disservice to the millions of female NFL fans across the country.

Goodell needs to lay the hammer down on Rice and nothing Rice can say on Friday should change that.
