The back and fourth regarding Carmelo Anthony re-signing with the New York Knicks has went on for months and is likely to continue, assuming he does opt out of his contract as expected.

But that doesn’t mean that Melo is leaving the Big Apple, at least not according to the New York Post who believe the Knicks are the ‘strong’ favorite to sign the All-Star when he does hit the open market.

“Dallas is also said to be interested in Anthony but also has to get under the salary cap,” says Marc Berman. “The Knicks still remain strong favorites, even if Jackson isn’t off to a sizzling start.”

While Anthony may be willing to take a mild paycut, it certainly isn’t going to be enough for the vast majority of teams to afford him. And of those teams, very few would be of interest to Carmelo so his choice of potential suitors is already limited.

Add in that the Knicks can offer the most financial security of any team willing to enter the bidding and it seems as if the Knicks do have the most pluses working in their favoring regarding the re-signing of Anthony. Of course, what they don’t have is talent so they’ll need to sell the former Orangeman on the idea of their soon to be amount of significant cap space.

Anthony hasn’t exactly been shy about wanting to form his own ‘Big 3’, but doing so in New York looks unlikely. But if he wants the most money and most security? He’s not going to find a better option.
