Alabama head coach Nick Saban has no problem recruiting and signing a gay player to play for the Crimson Tide and he’s been on teams that had gay players in the past.

It is a question that is sure to be asked across the country to college football coaches in light of Michael Sam attempting to make the roster of the St. Louis Rams as the first openly NFL player and when Saban was asked if he has any issues with signing a gay recruit as the SEC annual meetings in Destin, Fla. he replied in a manner in which I’d expect all coaches would answer the question.
“As long as we respect them, and they should respect us, I would have no problem with it,” Saban said, according to the Twitter feed of Antonya English of the Tampa Bay Times.
When Saban was asked whether he would sign or recruit a gay player, says he would because he’s been on teams with “folks like that.”
Would you expect Saban or any other head coach to say something to the contrary?
Football coaches care about one thing and that’s winning. If there was a recruit who was gay and could help a team win football games in college, he would be a hotly contested prospect on the recruiting trail.
Sam told his Missouri teammates and coaches prior to the beginning of last season that resulted in the Tigers winning the SEC and Sam being honored as co-SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
