The NBA Draft is less a month away, and with that, the intensity by which teams are bringing in potential draftees for workouts has vastly increased in recent days. That trend was prevalent on Wednesday with a report that former Stanford forward Dwight Powell has scheduled workouts with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns and Minnesota Timberwolves this week.

The 6-foot-9 Powell isn’t one of the biggest names in a draft class that includes Joel Embiid, Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker, but the four-year stud has the potential to become a solid role player in the NBA. Powell is currently ranked modestly on most draft boards as a second-round pick (ESPN has him as the 51st overall player and 12th ranked power forward), but with his varied skill set and strong pedigree, he could be attractive to some teams.

Dwight Powell would look awfully comfortable in a Phoenix uniform, as the forward possesses a nice jump shot that would play well in a wide open system, and his ball-handling skills could be attractive in virtually any situation. There are obvious worries (lack of explosiveness, etc.) that will keep him out of legitimate consideration for the first round, but all it takes is one team, and Powell could be playing a role as early as next season.

Stay tuned as more workout information is released from across the NBA in the coming days.
