The Minnesota Timberwolves are still looking for a head coach to fill the vacancy left by Rock Adelman stepping down and it appears we may have a new frontrunner to land the job. After getting burned bad by Dave Joerger last week, the Wolves have interviewed former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro.
Del Negro is the very definition of an ‘average coach’ as his record with the Bulls and Clippers were either at or very close to .500 his entire tenure. He got both teams to the playoffs but they weren’t long stays and that’s what ended up costing Del Negro his job in both places.
The Wolves are getting desperate though, as as Adrian Wojnarkowski and Marc Stein point out, things are starting to heat up fast for Del Negro and the Wolves.

Simply put, this is not a move that will keep Kevin Love in town. In fact, it may cause him to want to leave even earlier as Del Negro has worked with superstars before on elite teams and turned in Timberwolves style results of mediocrity.
But there is a bright side to this for Wolves fans, as the two coaches who succeeded Del Negro in his previous two jobs were Tom Thibodeau in Chicago and Doc Rivers in L.A., so once he fails and is fired in Minnesota in two years, the Wolves are in line to land a great head coach.
