Three-star cornerback Davante Davis (Homestead, Fla. Booker T. Washington)  decommitted from Syracuse on Thursday afternoon, 23 days after giving his oral commitment to the Orange.

More from College Football

Davis posted the reasoning behind his decommitment on his Twitter page:

"“I will be opening everything back up as far as this recruiting process goes. I’ve had a nice talk with coach McDonald also have had a nice talk with my family & decided to decommit from Syracuse. It’s nothing but love for them but i want to enjoy this recruiting process & give everyone a fair chance.”"

Davis has blown up in recent weeks as some of the premier programs in college football have taken notice of the 6-3, 200-pound cornerback and extended scholarship offers and Davis made the wise decision to explore his options.

Alabama, Ohio State, Miami, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisville, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Mississippi State and Illinois have all offered the No. 448 player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings in the time that Davis committed to Syracuse on May 6th.

Davis is sure to rise up the rankings over the course of the summer and his senior season as talent evaluators get a longer look at him at various camps.

He ranks as the No. 37 cornerback and the No. 61 player in the state of Florida. When these schools offer you before the start of your senior season, it is only a matter of time until that recruit drops his commitment and opens up his recruitment to see what the other programs have to offer the rising prospect.

Davis has exceptional size for the position and plays for one of the top high schools in the nation. Look for him to visit a number of programs who have extended offers this summer and take time the second go around to make sure he won’t have to decommit a second time.
