Five-star running back Damien Harris (Berea, Ken. Madison Southern) trimmed his list of suitors to a top eight as the No. 1 running back in the nation revealed his list via Twitter on Friday evening.

Ohio State, Kentucky, Alabama, Oregon, Florida, Florida State, Michigan and Notre Dame comprise the top eight for the 5-11, 205-pound running back with 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Harris is the nation’s No. 23 player overall regardless of position, the No. 1 running back and the No. 1 recruit in the Bluegrass State.

Tennessee, Auburn, Oklahoma and USC are the schools to drop out of his top 10 he released on March 28th while the Oregon Ducks are a newcomer.

Harris took unofficial visits to Michigan, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and Kentucky this year with plenty more to come this summer and fall before he announces his decision. Harris originally committed to the Wolverines on July 29, 2013 but decommitted on January 21, 2014.

The 2013 Gatorade Player of the Year ran for 2,621 yards last season as a junior on 220 carries with 42 rushing touchdowns. Over the last two seasons, Harris has scored 77 touchdowns and rushed for 4,399 yards.

His ability to run around would-be tacklers and his strength and power to run through tackles makes Harris such a coveted recruit who should be able to make an immediate impact at whichever college he decided to continue his playing career.

Could the transfer news of former top recruit Ty Isaac who is headed to Michigan impact the decision of Harris? Perhaps, but for now the Wolverines have a 1/8 chance of landing the top running back in this year’s class.

However, the favorite for Harris could be the Buckeyes as they have 65% of the vote on his crystal ball prediction page on 247Sports.
