The Los Angeles Lakers are still searching for a head coach after the team fired Mike D’Antoni.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

Former player and newly minted New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher stated he was shocked his one-time team didn’t put forth a bigger effort to hire him, but it seems as if the Lakers are looking for more established coaches given the rumored favorites.

According to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report, Kurt Rambis, Alvin Gentry and Byron Scott are among the preferred options to head the Lakers sideline next season.

“However, Rambis also remains a favorite for the Lakers’ head-coaching position, according to league sources. The Lakers have interviewed at least a half-dozen coaches, but sources say they are focused on three primary candidates: Rambis, Alvin Gentry and Byron Scott.”

Beck went on to suggest that Rambis, who is a good friend of Phil Jackson, could also join the New York Knicks staff though it’s hard to believe he’s take an assistant job if a head coaching position was made available to him.

In addition to Rambis, Gentry and Scott, the Lakers have reached out and/or interviewed a handful of potential other candidates though for now, it appears as if the previously mentioned three are the most likely candidates for the job.

As for the roster they could be inheriting, it’s obviously in flux as rumors have hinted the Lakers are shopping their No. 7 pick in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft, likely looking to obtain a veteran to place next to Kobe Bryant.
