Ray Allen on retirement decision: See where ‘true heart lies’
By Bryan Rose
The Miami Heat didn’t expect to lose the 2014 NBA Finals and they certainly didn’t expect to get curbstompped like they did.

But alas, that’s exactly what happened as the San Antonio Spurs dismantled the reigning NBA Champions with surgical precision and now the Heat have a multitude of questions going into the offseason.
The most important question is LeBron James‘ future. It’s likely his decision to remain in South Beach will impact not only Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade (who also hold opt-out clauses), but veteran sharpshooter Ray Allen as well.
Allen has suggested that retirement is an option for him and he recently told Yahoo Sports’ Marc J. Spears that he’ll take a few days before making a decision.
“Ray Allen says he will see where his ‘true heart lies’ in a couple of days in terms of playing or retiring.”
I’d venture to guess that suggestion has a lot to do with what James decides to do. If LeBron decides to come back to the Heat, Allen seems as if he’d like to continue his career but if James departs then that leaves Allen in a bit of a predicament.
Allen isn’t signed to the Heat next season, so even if James did decide to leave, Allen wouldn’t be forced to remain with the Heat and he could opt to join a contending team like the aforementioned Spurs or another powerhouse. But that hasn’t emerged as an option (at least not yet) so it sounds like we’ll have to wait a bit before we get an official decision from Allen.
