How Entertaining Will the Atlanta Falcons Hard Knocks Be?
By Kim Myers
The Atlanta Falcons declined an invitation to be a part of HBO’s sports documentary show, Hard Knocks, before the 2013 season but, they volunteered to be featured on the program for the 2014 season. The team is looking to rebound from a dreadful 4-12 2013 season so now that it’s all decided, how entertaining will the show be?

The NFL is entertaining on its own, obviously. There really doesn’t need to be an additional show with cameras following a team through their training camp to garner more attention to the season. People are foaming at the mouth waiting for the regular season to start anyway.
What would make this installment of the show entertaining is to see the combination of the team who was just a few plays away from the Super Bowl in 2012 to trying to put a really crappy 2013 season behind them.
The biggest downside I can see, entertainment value-wise is the fact that there isn’t much turmoil on the team, aside from trying to improve on their 4-12 season from last year. There aren’t any high-profile position battles going into camp. There aren’t any contract holdouts where the drama lies in wondering when they’ll show up.
The upside is that it should be generally entertaining to see how the team is going to institute the 3-4 defense with their new free agent acquisition NT Paul Soliai. Also it will be interesting to see how well Julio Jones performs coming off of an injured 2013.
The Falcons have already suffered their first devastating injury of 2014, after having dealt with more than their share of injuries last season. They’ve already lost LB Sean Weatherspoon to a torn Achilles.
Thankfully, for HBO viewers, assistant coaches Bryan Cox and Mike Tice are sure to drop enough f-bombs to fill the quota for the hour program.
Overall, it should be an entertaining season on HBO’s Hard Knock featuring the 2014 Atlanta Falcons.
