After some early dominance in the Open era from the United States competitors, we were treated to some dominance from Germany’s Steffi Graf in the late 80’s throughout the mid 90’s. It was an impressive run for Graf, who won seven titles in a nine-year span. Prior to Graf, Martina Navratilova of the U.S. also won seven in nine years.
After Graf stepped aside, there were three different champions in three years before the Williams sisters became the biggest story in tennis.
Now, here we are in 2014, with a wide open field.
Who will be the next Wimbledon champion to join the list? We will have to just tune in over the course of the next two weeks and find out.
