Wimbledon gets 2013 champion Marion Bartoli’s name wrong during intro (Video)
By Dan Zinski
All Marion Bartoli did last year was win Wimbledon, so you’d expect the people at Wimbledon to at least remember her name, even if she did retire from tennis shortly after her victory.

Um…I guess not. Because when Marion Bartoli came out to Centre Court for her ceremonial moment ahead of the opening match of Wimbledon 2014, she was introduced as “Maria Bartoli.” Maybe the announcer had Maria Sharapova on the brain? Or Maria Shriver? Or maybe the announcer is just an idiot who is really bad at his job?
Yeah, the last one. No doubt.
Marion Bartoli – that’s still her name I’m pretty sure – took the slight in stride. Because what else was she going to do? Turn around go John McEnroe on the moron announcer?
Actually, that would have been awesome. And the announcer would have deserved it. But Marion Bartoli is made of sterner stuff than that. Marion Bartoli can handle being insulted right to her face on the scene of her greatest professional triumph.
Really Wimbledon, that is awful. And you’re the tournament that’s all about doing everything the right way. How about getting the names of prior champions correct during the intros? Is that too much to ask?
