NBA Rumors: Pistons may be open to trading Greg Monroe
By Bryan Rose
The Detroit Pistons have been pretty adamant about their desire to retain restricted free agent Greg Monroe. The former Georgetown product is said to be the target of multiple teams this offseason and is likely to recieve a max offer contract, of which the Pistons will have every opportunity to match.

The Pistons have previously stated they have every intention to do so, but, it seems as if there has been a crack in that line of thinking as head coach Stan Van Gundy seemed to open up the possibility for a sign-and-trade scenario recently.
“If we make a trade, we’re going to get something we like, or we will not make a trade,” he said, adding that the Pistons “either want him (Greg Monroe) back or we want good value for him.”
That’s the first time we’ve heard the Pistons even entertain the thought about making such a move with Monroe who was allegedly placed on the trade block this past February.
The New Orleans Pelicans have reportedly attempted to engage the Pistons in a sign-and-trade scenario involving Monroe in the past few weeks, though, it’s not known how far those talks went or if the Pelicans were even successful in their attempts to speak to the Pistons.
The San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers have all been rumored to have varying interest in Monroe.
It still seems like the most likely scenario would be to bring Greg Monroe back, but it does seem as if the Pistons aren’t as sold on the idea as before.
