The San Francisco Giants are in a massive free fall which has seen their National League West division lead drop from double digits to just one game. Some of that can be attributed to the injuries suffered by Angel Pagan and Brandon Belt.

More from MLB

While Pagan is still in his recovery process, Belt is aiming to re-join the big boy club in a matter of days and in preparation has been rehabbing with Single-A San Jose over the weekend. That’s where he met up with 12-year-old cancer survivor Lyndsey Dworkin.

A huge Brandon Belt fan, Dworkin and the Giants first baseman talked prior to the game and the Texas native, hoping to bring some joy to the young girl, informed her that he’d hit a home run in that evenings game. He delivered as Belt blasted a two-out, solo shot over the wall in San Jose’s victory over Visalia.

"Brandon Belt made his promise just before game time, after watching Lyndsey throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The girl had chosen to wear a Belt T-shirt for the occasion, so as she trotted off the mound, Belt raced out of the dugout to say hello."

Ironically enough, you don’t seen players often promise on-field achievements very often simply because they’re pretty difficult to deliver, but Belt seemed to have a feeling he’d be able to crush one over the fence and had no problem doing so.

Thankfully the San Jose Giants were able to get the home run ball back for Lyndsey and Belt signed the ball, thanking her for being his good luck charm.
