The Dallas Mavericks are waiting for a few large dominoes to fall in free agency, but in the meantime they’re making sure all their ducks are in a row before making their big push. On Wednesday (or possibly Thursday), the Mavericks are expected to meet with Carmelo Anthony, a meeting which will then dictate what type of contract Dallas can afford to pay Dirk Nowitzki.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Once the Mavericks are able to get Dirk and hopefully a big name free agent on the books, they’re expected to turn their attention to some of their lesser but still important free agents like Vince Carter and Devin Harris.

Both have drawn interest from opposing teams, especially Vince Carter who oddly enough has a multitude of teams knocking at his door. However, Carter has expressed a desire to remain with the Dallas Mavericks and according to Eddie Sefko there is progress being made between he, Harris and the Mavericks on new deals.

It’s not known what type of contracts the Mavericks will be willing to pay either player but once Nowitzki and a desired free agent are on the books, the Mavericks can then go over the cap to retain both Carter and Harris (if they so incline) so it won’t be a question of money for the Mavericks (though it really never is).

Vince Carter has drawn interest from the Portland Trail Blazers, Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors and more though appears to favor Big D. Devin Harris meanwhile has a list of suitors as well, though he’s likely to be signed later in free agency once teams complete their larger signings.
