The Aussie faced a top three opponent for the first time in his career in only his second grand slam event. He landed 37 aces compared to Nadal’s eleven. He posted 70 winning shots to Nadal’s 44.

"“We keep saying who is going to break into the men’s top four? Well here is a guy who looks like he’s ready to do it. In the fourth set it was Nadal who looked a little leg-weary. But for Kyrgios to lose what I thought was going to be a crucial second set, it was the Aussie who was inspired to win in four,” said announcer John McEnroe"

Nadal was Wimbledon’s second seed for the tournament while Kyrgios was unseeded. Up next for the Australian will be Canada’s Milo Raonic who defeated Japan’s Kei Nishikori in four sets. The winner of Kyrgios and Raonic will face the winner of the Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka match.
