Petra Kvitova to face Eugenie Bouchard in Wimbledon final
By Mike Marteny
The 2014 Women’s final for Wimbledon is now set. Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic will take on Canadian Eugenie Bouchard on Saturday.
Kvitova made headlines three years ago, when she ripped through the Wimbledon field to advance to the final at the age of 21. She beat Maria Sharapova to claim the first Grand Slam title for any person born in the 90’s.
Youth will be the order of the day again on Saturday. Kvitova is the veteran now at age 24, taking on the 20 year old Bouchard.

Kvitova advanced to her second Wimbledon final by beating Czech Andrea Hlavackova, German Mona Barthel, (30)American Venus Williams, China’s Peng Shuai, Czech Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova, and (23)Czech Lucie Safarova.
Bouchard got there by beating Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, Spaniard Silvia Soler Espinosa, (20)German Andrea Petkovic, (9)German Angelique Kerber, and (3)Romanian Simona Halep.
Bouchard’s road was much tougher, having already beaten two of the world’s top ten in the rankings. Her reward? Sixth ranked Petra Kvitova, who already has one Wimbledon championship under her belt.
Kvitova is 316-144 in her seven years on the WTA tour with 11 singles wins. Bouchard is 154-84 in three years with her lone singles win coming earlier this season at Nurnberg, Germany.
Bouchard won the 2012 junior Wimbledon title, so she is no stranger to success there either.
Bouchard has now made the semifinals of all three Grand Slam events so far this year, becoming the first WTA player to do so since Dinara Safina in 2009.
Saturday’s final will take place at 2pm London time on Centre Court.
