The Boston Celtics were reportedly willing to part with both of their first round picks (they wound up taking former Oklahoma State Cowboys’ point guard Marcus Smart with the sixth-overall selection and former Kentucky Wildcats’ swingman James Young with the 17th-overall pick), but the Timberwolves didn’t seem all that interested. The Celtics are still trying to work out a deal for Love and collected another first round pick for taking on big man Tyler Zeller’s contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday.
The Golden State Warriors were apparently the closest to dealing for Love in a deal that would have sent Love and guard Kevin Martin to the Warriors in exchange for guard Klay Thompson and power forward David Lee, among other potential assets. The Warriors, however, do not want to part way with Thompson and no deal has gone down.
That has caused the Timberwolves to play the waiting game.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Timberwolves are willing to let the market play out and wait on the “next wave” of Love offers.
After LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony find new homes, teams will turn their attention to Love.
Love averaged 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game last season while shooting 45.7% from the field, 37.6% from three and 82.1% from the charity stripe.
