Dallas Mavericks rumors: Hope to sign Mo Williams
By Bryan Rose
While the Dallas Mavericks have shown interest in a handful of point guards this offseason, including the likes of Isaiah Thomas, it appears they’ve had to get a bit more realistic with their options. Players like Thomas are simply too expensive which is why they’ve seemingly diverted their interest to much cheaper candidates.

One such player is former Portland Trail Blazers guard, Mo Williams.
Williams had hoped to return to the Blazers after opting out of his contract in June in hopes of securing a more financially friendly deal, however the two sides weren’t able to find a middle ground. That allowed Mo Williams to hit the open market where he found a handful of teams showing interest, though few more than the Dallas Mavericks.
The two sides met in recent days and it appears as if all went well as the Dallas Mavericks are hoping to sign Williams to the veteran minimum. Of course, it takes two to tango and Mo Williams has to be kicking himself for leaving a bigger salary on the table.
If there is a silver lining, Williams does reside in Dallas during the offseason so he’d get the luxury of playing close to ‘home’ but he was likely hoping to be doing so for a larger salary than the league’s veteran minimum.
He also doesn’t figure to get a ton of playing time in Big D given their rash of backcourt players, but he’d certainly be a solid depth addition to an already talented Mavericks team – especially at such a team friendly price.
