Will they or won’t they? That’s the topic at hand regarding the Boston Celtics on-again, off-again trade rumors swirling around Rajon Rondo. The talented, though oft-injured point guard has been the speculation of trade rumors for multiple seasons and they don’t seen to be dying down in the near future.

In fact, there have been multiple scenarios rumored to be on the table this offseason which included sending Rajon Rondo to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Kevin Love (unlikely) as well as moving Rondo to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for youth (Ben McLemore) and future draft picks.
Neither has proven to have much basis, however, where there is smoke there is usually fire and Jackie MacMullan of ESPN fame seems to believe that there’s a good chance Rajon Rondo may have a different zip code in the somewhat near future.
While the Boston Celtics would obviously like to expedite their rebuilding process with Rondo still on the roster, that may prove to be difficult given he’s their largest and best trade chip. Add in that he’s likely to be entering the downside of his career by the time the Celtics would put together a high quality product, it starts to make sense as to why a move is possible.
Some may say the Celtics missed the boat on a deal given Rajon Rondo will be entering the final year of his deal and while that may hold some truth, he’ll certainly bring back a significant haul if the Celtics do opt to pull the trigger.
