Dallas Mavericks rumors: Lance Stephenson a ‘serious candidate’
By Bryan Rose
The Dallas Mavericks had hoped to lure Chandler Parsons away from the Houston Rockets, however, there have been increasing rumors suggesting that the offer sheet presented to Parsons by the Mavericks will be matched. If that happens, Plan B will need to be implemented and that may involve Lance Stephenson.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks have emerged as a ‘serious candidate’ to sign the former Indiana Pacers swingman.
This of course isn’t the first time we’ve heard the Mavericks linked to Lance Stephenson as there were rumors hinting the two could be a match earlier in free agency, however the Mavericks seemed to be more interested in Carmelo Anthony and Chandler Parsons at the time.
Regardless, if left at the alter, the Mavericks may move on to Stephenson.
"Add Lance Stephenson to the list of the Mavericks’ targets if the Houston Rockets exercise their right to match the three-year, $46 million offer sheet to Chandler Parsons.Stephenson, who was considered toxic by the Mavs due to his character issues a couple of months ago, is somewhere on the top tier with Trevor Ariza and Luol Deng, a source told ESPNDallas.com. There is not a consensus opinion among the Dallas decision-makers about the rankings of those three unrestricted free agents."
Those ‘character issues’ have created a somewhat dim market for Lance Stephenson, who shockingly remains without a team.
The Indiana Pacers are said to have interest in re-signing Stephenson, but the forward has already rejected a five-year, $44 million dollar contractual proposal from them and it’s not known if they’re willing to increase their offer.
It’s not known what type of contracts the Dallas Mavericks may offer the 23-year-old.
