Maybe ‘Alabama Slammer” isn’t just a clever name for a drink anymore.  Early this morning, the Tuscaloosa Police arrested Alabama Crimson Tide defensive lineman Jarran Reed and charged him with DUI.

Reed becomes the fifth Alabama player arrested this offseason.  Cornerback Tony Brown was arrested in January for resisting arrest and failure to obey.  Linebacker Dillon Lee was charged with DUI in April.  Running back Kenyan Drake was arrested just eight days ago for “obstructing governmental operations”.  Fellow running back Altee Tenpenny was cited by North Little Rock Police for possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), and the charges will be dropped on the condition that he stays out of trouble for the next year.

According to the Tucaloosa Police Department, Reed backed into another car at around 1:50 am local time while leaving a parking space.  Reed attempted to exit the parking lot when a police officer pulled him over.  A field sobriety test was conducted immediately.  His blood alcohol content was 0.13.  The legal limit in Alabama is 0.08.

He is being held on $1,000 bond.

There is no word yet on punishment from coach Nick Saban, and he has not commented on the issue yet.  He does have to be getting tired of answering for his players getting arrested though.

Reed was in the ESPN JC100 and transferred to Alabama from East Mississippi Community College this spring. Reed was working with the first team defense at times this summer and was expected to compete for playing time up front for the Tide.
