Blue Jays, Padres continue Chase Headley trade talks
By Bryan Rose
The Toronto Blue Jays have been in search of additional infield talent for some time, though that need increased when Brett Lawrie went down with a broken finger. Still yet to fully recover (and no timetable for his return), the Blue Jays have continued such efforts and have seemingly become enamored with Chase Headley.

A former MVP candidate (at least for a season), the San Diego Padres third baseman has struggled in recent years, both with the stick and his health. However, a recent change to his batting grip has yielded positive results and there is hope his career will have a resurgence.
That could be why the Toronto Blue Jays remain interested in the infielder as according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports, there is continued trade dialogue with the San Diego Padres regarding Chase Headley.
A free agent at season end, it’s unlikely Headley’s price tag would be over the top so the Toronto Blue Jays could potentially snag a player who has proven himself to be an elite bat for a relatively minimal asking price.
This of course isn’t the first time news of the Toronto Blue Jays’ interest in Chase Headley made headlines, though it is the first suggesting that the two sides are having ongoing talks.
Getting out of San Diego’s sub-par lineup should also help Headley, especially if he’s placed around offensive talents like Jose Reyes, Edwin Encarnation and Jose Bautista.
Chase Headley is currently hitting just .226 with 7 home runs and 31 RBI, which shockingly leads the Padres.
