While Chandler Parsons is more than excited to be a member of the Dallas Mavericks organization, it seems as if the small forward was under the impression that he’d remain with the Houston Rockets franchise moving forward.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Parsons’ offer sheet from the Mavericks was expected to be matched assuming the Houston Rockets signed Chris Bosh, but once they failed to do so they also decided to let Parsons move on as well, shocking the former Florida star.

“I definitely was a little surprised that they didn’t match,” Chandler Parsons said. “I thought that was the plan going forward that they were going to [match].”

It seemed to be a case of being too greedy as the Houston Rockets owned a team option on Parsons which would have kept him under contract for an absurdly small $960,000 for the upcoming season. However, wanting to be in position to have maximum available money to lure a big name free agent, the team decided to decline such an option.

In the end the decision came back to bite the Rockets who may have suffered the worst offseason in the league, simply because they struck out on all their intended targets and also lost Parsons to a fellow divisional rival.

Part of the reason the Rockets decided to decline matching the Chandler Parsons contract with the Dallas Mavericks was the construction of the deal which Houston general manager Daryl Morey called one of the most untradeable contracts he has ever seen.

I’m guessing the Mavericks don’t mind.
