The Detroit Lions are looking to open up their training camp soon but one piece of business still needs to be taken care of.

More from Detroit Lions

On the field, the Lions are looking to rebound from a terrible finish to the 2013 season but off the field they’re looking to lock down one of their best players in a long term contract. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is in contract negotiations with the Lions but no deal has been completed yet.

That’s something that Lions beat writer Dave Birkett thinks will get done maybe not this week but more than likely before the season starts in September.

Suh getting his deal is something we could expect to happen for a while now and it’s truthfully just a matter of time. There is no way the Lions would or could allow Suh to just walk away from them as he’s a staple of what the team is all about and that’s both the reason he deserves to get paid but the reason Detroit is skeptical to invest big money in him.
