The San Francisco Giants know they’ll need to buyers come the 2014 MLB trade deadline and with Matt Cain on the disabled list and a return date unknown, one of their top priorities will be adding a starting pitcher.

More from MLB

That news was covered earlier today but there were no names attached to the rumor. That is until now as according to Max Wildstein, the San Francisco Giants are said to have trade interest in Bartolo Colon of the New York Mets.

Interest in the veteran starting pitcher has been minimal and it’s likely the Giants are hoping Colon can recapture the magic he experienced last season across the bay as a member of the Oakland Athletics. In fact, Bartolo Colon hasn’t exactly pitched very bad for the Mets in a hitter friendly park and one could safely assume he’d fare much better in the comfy confines of AT&T Park and the spacious National League West ballparks.

Another plus for the San Francisco Giants would be the cost as the New York Mets know they won’t be able to get much in terms of prospects for Bartolo Colon.

Of course, the Giants won’t be the only team with eyes on hefty pitcher. While it’s been said Colon isn’t drawing major interest there are some teams like the New York Yankees who’ve kicked the tires on the former All-Star and could be a thorn in San Francisco’s side if they attempted to put forth an offer.

For now nothing appears imminent but adding Bartolo Colon seems like a typical San Francisco Giants move.
