There is an offensive position battle brewing with the Cleveland Browns in training camp this summer, and no it’s not just the one between Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel for the quarterback spot. There is a battle between Ben Tate and rookie Terrance West for the starting running back position, although now it looks like Tate will have a leg up in the race.

According to Ian Rapoport, the rookie West will begin training camp on the non-football injury list, effectively making Tate the no. 1 running back to begin the march toward the regular season.

While many saw it as nearly a given that the prized free agent acquisition in Tate would be immediately slotted in for the starting position, West has been turning some heads within the Browns’ coaching staff, starting a bit of a backfield controversy in Cleveland.

Certainly, whatever the specific injury may be, you would think that Tate now has a huge advantage over West in the race to becoming the starting running back as the team deals with the issue to their rookie.

Nonetheless, this race that has had a lot of eyes locked on it in the past few months, just got a bit more interesting.
