What does the Jake Peavy trade do for his fantasy value?

Peavy was a disappointing 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA.  He was leading the American League with 20 homers allowed in 124 innings pitched.

The Giants had a need for a pitcher after Matt Cain made another trip to the disabled list.

Yusmiero Petit did not pitch well in his first start in place of Cain, giving up five runs in five innings against the Phillies.

Petit will move back to the bullpen where he has fared marginally better this season.

Peavy will make his Giants debut tomorrow against the hated Dodgers.

Jake Peavy is no stranger to the NL, or the NL West in particular.  The best years of his career were spent as the ace of the San Diego Padres in the middle of the last decade.

Will his move back to the pitcher-friendly National League help his numbers?

It would have to.  This makes Peavy a nice target for those of you looking to bolster your rotation for a stretch run as well.

Peavy is only owned in 42 percent of ESPN leagues right now, and I might even go after him as a streaming option in standard leagues.  That is how big of an impact this move could have on the fantasy world.

Just be aware that he might burn you in the process.  His numbers with Boston are a bit concerning, but there is a huge difference between the AL East and NL West in terms of runs scored.  I would take my chances, unless you are one of the lucky ones that doesn’t have to take risks.

Hembree and Escobar likely won’t have any fantasy impact going forward this year.  Hembree could see some time in the bullpen, but he likely won’t pitch in any pressure situations, so his prospects for wins and holds look very low right now.
