Ben Zobrist trade rumors: San Francisco Giants interest to intensify?
By Bryan Rose
The San Francisco Giants have been looking for a second baseman ever since Marco Scutaro went down with injury. They’ve tried Brandon Hicks, who flamed out and was eventually DFA’d. They even rushed Joe Panik up who has been sub-par at best. Hell, they even decided to give Dan Uggla a look.

None of the options have worked out, especially Uggla, who had a series to forget this past weekend as he played a vital role in the San Francisco Giants being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Frustrated by the lack of production, San Francisco general manager Brian Sabean has been scouring the trade market for a replacement and has shown previous interest in Ben Zobrist of the Tampa Bay Rays. Of course, it’s said that Ben Zobrist’s price is relatively high but that doesn’t seem to be of great concern for the Giants general manager.
According to beat writer Chris Haft, it’s possible that the Giants’ interest in Ben Zobrist will intensify.
San Francisco isn’t exactly ripe with MLB-ready prospects so it remains to be seen what exactly the Tampa Bay Rays would be asking for in exchange.
Zobrist brings a very affordable $7 million dollar team option next season and could be of use in both the infield and outfield for the Giants, if need be.
The San Francisco Giants aren’t the only team looking to acquire Ben Zobrist, but they do seem the most interested. Whether or not they’ll have the pieces to get a deal done though, remains the question.
