Johnny Manziel may be leading the NFL in jersey sales right now, but so far it seems that he is a long ways away from earning the No. 1 quarterback job in Cleveland.
According to Browns head coach Mike Pettine, Manziel has been “inconsistent” thus far in training camp while Brian Hoyer is improving.
The Browns GM Ray Farmer is also high on Hoyer, stating that he is “phenomenal”.
Clearly Manziel has a hole to work himself out of after the first week of training camp, but that was to be expected.

Manziel came into training camp as the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart, and he will more than likely leave training camp in that same role.
The real test comes when Manziel sees in-game action in the preseason.
If Manziel excels during his snaps in the preseason, he will put pressure on the Browns’ coaching staff to give him a shot come the regular season.
Ultimately, you have to believe that Hoyer will be the starting quarterback for the Browns to start the regular season, but if the Browns begin to pile up losses, how long will it take for Manziel to get his shot? At this point, only time will tell.
