Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions break off contract talks until end of season

One of the biggest story lines facing the Detroit Lions in the first training camp under new head coach James Caldwell is the future of All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

Talks between Suh and the Lions have been an up-and-down process as most negotiations tend to be when a player of Suh’s caliber is slated to hit the open market.
Without a new deal agreed to prior to training camp getting underway, the Lions have tabled all talks with Suh until the end of the season, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

The 6-4, 307-pound Suh is 27 years old and has been named to three Pro Bowl teams and is coming off his second season where he was named an All-Pro. His first appearance on the All-Pro team came his rookie season in 2010 when the Lions spend the No. 2 overall pick on the former defensive tackle from Nebraska.
If Suh hits the open market, you can expect a bidding war for one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL from teams who run a 3-4 and teams who run the 4-3 because he is that talented, and he could receive a contract similar to the $100 million deal Albert Haynesworth signed after leaving the Tennessee Titans for the Washington Redskins.
Suh had 5.5 sacks last season and 48 combined tackles last season. He has only missed two games in his four-year career, totaling 27.5 career sacks.
