The Boston Red Sox certainly have no shortage of suitors who are pursing ace pitcher Jon Lester. Needless to say, if they want to make a trade they’ll be able to.

More from Baltimore Orioles

Of course, we don’t know what type of return the Boston Red Sox are being offered nor what they’re asking. Given that, it’s no certainty that Jon Lester will be traded in the next 48 hours though teams are apparently chomping at the bit to acquire the young arm.

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN, no fewer than seven teams are interested in the southpaw which include the Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners and more.

Most of the teams interested in Jon Lester do have plentiful talent in their minor league system, so that has to be exciting for Boston Red Sox fans who are hoping for a significant return in a trade. Of course, given Jon Lester’s pending free agency it’s unlikely that the Red Sox will get anymore than one very solid prospect in return. Still, for a player you may lose in free agency, there’s nothing wrong with that – especially if Lester is contemplating re-signing with the Red Sox in the offseason as has been suggested.

As to who is leading the race for Jon Lester, that is currently unknown. It’s been previously stated that the alleged Matt Kemp for Lester rumor is not going to happen, so where the pitcher will end up is nothing more than a educated guess at this point.
