I’m guessing there was a time in Emilio Bonifacio’s career where he didn’t think he’d be one of the hottest trade commodities on the market. Of course, given his flexibility and ability to lead off, he is among the most coveted players available.

More from Baltimore Orioles

Given that, both the San Francisco Giants and Baltimore Orioles are said to have interest in the versatile speedster.

The Giants have been desperate for a top of the bat lineup all season, but that need only grew worse once Angel Pagan was injured. San Francicso has attempted to tread water during Pagan’s absence (and failed) but Emilio Bonifiaco would not only give them insurance atop the lineup but he’d also be able to handle second base duties. That’s something the team has struggled with all year as they’ve attempted to play multiple players at the position, all of whom have not produced.

As for the Baltimore Orioles, they’re looking for some speed along with a versatile talent who can play multiple positions and hit left handed pitching. That’s the name of Emilio Bonifacio’s game, though, it’s not known as to what type of price the Chicago Cubs are wanting for their veteran.

With little use to them given their re-building situation, it makes sense to move him but they may get stuck if they attempt to overprice their utility man.

A free agent at season end and only due a portion of his $3.5 million dollar contract, Emilio Bonifacio isn’t a big name, though he could be a difference maker down the stretch for whomever acquires him.
