After LeBron James left the Miami Heat to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the speculation surrounding Kevin Durant and a potential return to his hometown of Washington D.C. to play for the Wizards has grown. On Tuesday, Durant added fuel to the fire, telling reporters he “wouldn’t close the door on anything” when asked about eventually joining the Wizards.

More from Kevin Durant

Wizards’ star point guard John Wall would welcome Durant.

“It’s not a bad (idea) at all,” Wall told USA TODAY Sports about the idea of Durant eventually adopting James’ homecoming strategy. “Two of the best guys in the East going head to head four times a year? It’d be pretty exciting. You just sit back and watch and see what happens, but (the Wizards’ Durant-motivated moves) definitely lets him know that we want him around.”

In fact, Wall is already close with Durant.

“He’s like an older brother to me,” Wall said. “He’s happy to see the things I’m doing and what I’m doing for the city of DC, especially since that’s where he’s from. That’s a big honor to me and an honor to him, so we enjoy it. We enjoy our conversations. We enjoy hanging out. We have our fun times.”

Durant is still under contract for the next two seasons so clearly nothing is happening any time soon.

Durant averaged 27.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 50.3% from the field, 39.1% from beyond the arc and 87.3% from the free throw line during the regular season. Then, he averaged 32.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 46.0% from the floor, 34.4% from beyond the arc and 81.0% from the charity stripe in the postseason. Wall averaged 19.3 points, 8.8 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 43.3% from the field, 35.1% from three and 80.5% from the free throw line last season. In the postseason, he put up 16.3 points, 7.1 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 36.6% from the field, 21.9% from beyond the arc and 79.0% from the charity stripe.
